  1. How much do lessons cost?

  1. How long are lessons?
  1. Beginning students are offered a weekly, 30 minute lesson.  Longer lesson times are available for advanced students.

  1. Do I need to have a piano in order to take piano lessons?
  1. Yes.  In order to progress at any instrument, it requires daily reinforcement. 

  1. What are the practice requirements?
  1. A minimum of 30 minutes practice, five days per week for beginning lessons is required for students at Level 1 and above.  Very young students, ages 5 and 6 should practice 20 minutes per day for five days.  It's okay to break the practice sessions up into smaller segments if needed.

  1. Why do I need to practice?
  1. In order to reinforce what you have learned in your lesson, improve upon it and perfect it for performance.  Much like an athlete, your muscles must be trained to respond in a way that will create the desired outcome of making beautiful music for you and others to enjoy.

  1. Do I need an acoustic piano or can a buy an inexpensive keyboard?
  1. An acoustic piano in preferred but a full size digital keyboard with a weighted hammer action is an acceptable alternative.  Also, renting a piano is a less expensive option.  Please feel free to contact me if you would like help selecting an instrument.

  1. What is the "right" age to begin piano lessons?
  1. Any one, at any age can begin to learn to play the piano.  The earliest I begin students at age 5 with a pre-reading curriculum. 

  1. My child is much older, will he be able to learn to play the piano?
  1. Absolutely.  In fact, older students will progress through material at a much faster rate than younger students. 

  1. How long does it take to learn to play the piano? 
  1. Basic proficiency at the piano, or any instrument, depends upon the amount of time the individual student commits to practicing and perfecting their lessons.  Generally, a student who has studied for at least 7 years will be able to continue playing the piano into adulthood for enjoyment.

  1. Do I need to read music in order to take voice lessons?
  1. No.  You will learn basic music reading skills as part of your voice lesson and songs will be taught to you at your lesson.  You will need a CD player.
